It is hard to find the words to express how saddened I am at the news of the death of Eric Sykes. I grew up watching his gentle style of comedy which no longer exists today. I doubt if he were born again now he would ever become much in this day where comedy is there to attack people and be vindictive. His was a gentle type of humour which never targeted anyone for abuse. His “Sykes” television programme throughout the 1970s was one of the highlights of my week. He made you feel as though you lived in Sebastopol Terrace with him. You were part of the family.
